a modular street skate spot

street skating is a tricky subject to design for because the end product shouldn’t scream “SKATEPARK” but rather suggest it through familiar elements.

sketches.

the first round of sketches used elements of sculpture and architecture to create unique looking skate obstacles.

mockups.

mocking up a product using legos^® was a little unorthodox, but i found it to be quite playful. the geometric nature of legos^® also fit perfectly into skatable obstacle design.

inspiration.

while researching, i came across this puzzle which sparked an idea for stunt. i started to imagine how the individual components of the cube could be manipulated.

each piece above, when in their base form, can fit into a 3 x 3 cube. each piece has the ability to unfold/twist to create skatable ramps, pyramids, or ledges.

because i wanted this product to be more than just a basic shape, i carefully picked materials that added visual interest.
